Sultan Luqman Abdus-Salaam was born on November 20, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born to Jesse Vincent Washington Sr. and Nancy Davis, with the name they gave him, Harold Louis Washington; nickname “Teddy”. He attended Scotlandville High School where he was a star in football and ran track all four years, winning many awards and championships. He was first recruited to Grambling University then to Colorado before going to San Diego State where he was the team leading ground gaining running back, under the Hall of Fame football coach Don “Air” Coryell in the mid-sixties and then turning professional and played for the Cincinnati Bengals where he played for a year or two. In 1986 he got his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from University of Phoenix.    Luqman moved to Las Vegas, Nevada 1983. He married Joyce Ann Nichols, and they had a total of 5 children, he brought one child and she brought four children to the family. In 1983 he started training for Professional Firefighters, he became a firefighter, then fire captain and then training officer. He was a mentor for boys, committed 100 men, and was part of the Re Entry X Offenders to Productivity Program through Masjid As Sabur, with his dear friend Mujihid Ramadan. Luqman is the father of the 1994 football Heisman Trophy Winner, Rahsaan Salaam. He is a member of the Muslin Community. He attends Masjid As Sabur, under the leadership of Imam Fateem Seifullah. Luqman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He is also known as Harold, Teddy, papa, Luqdog, brother Imam. He loved jazz, he loved to dance and he love sweets, he loved family, most of all he loved “Allah”.    Preceding him in death was his parents; Jesse Vincent Washington and Nancy Davis, his brother Oliver “Ow” Lacy (Elizabeth). Two sisters; Gwendolyn Thomas and Thea Burchell, his son Rashaan Salaam, they both died on the same date “December 5”.    He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted and loving wife Joyce, two sons; Alfred McDaniels Jr (Jackie), Msemaji Nichols (Vanessa), two daughters; Daaiyah McDaniels and Sonja Dukes. Twelve grandchildren and Thirteen great grandchildren. Six brothers; Jesse Washington (Delores), Ronnie Montague ( Karen), Bernard Washington (Renee), Warren Sam (Elaine), Gregory Washington and Rodney Washington. Four sisters; Hester White (Fred), Beverly Cage, Dinna Coleman and Brenda Washington Davis (Ed). Host of nieces, nephews, family, Muslin family and friends. 
  On this day the spirit and love that enriched him we pray will remain in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him. For he stood steadfast on the promises of God.
