Sunie Viola Wicker Mills, 90, of Newberry, widow of Alvin Carol Mills, died Saturday, September 6, 2025 at White Oak Manor.
Born on November 30, 1934 in Kinards, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Oliver and Viola Graham Wicker. Mrs. Mills graduated from Bush River High School and retired after a long career with Greenwood Mills. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School class, and served on church council, was a leader of the LCY, and was a former Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Mills was active with Meals on Wheels for a number of years. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and pulling for the Clemson Tigers and for the Atlanta Braves. She loved her grandsons dearly, and they brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by her sons, Benji (Kendra) Mills of Boiling Springs and Gregg (Renee) Mills of Lexington; a brother, James (Frances) Wicker of Newberry; and grandsons, Ethan Mills, Matthew Mills, Hunter Mills, and Conner Mills.
She was predeceased by brothers, Robert Wicker, Marion Wicker, Herman Wicker, and Richard Wicker; and sisters, Rebecca Gardner, Elizabeth Ruff, and Mabel Gomes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Bethany Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Stoudemayer and Rev. Floyd Sides. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 2704 Nance Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Ethan Mills, Matthew Mills, Hunter Mills, Conner Mills, Tyler Havird, and Kelsey Havird.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School class.
The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor and Bernardo Hospice Care.
