Susan Joann Barrett, age 68, passed away Monday, Ocotber 13, 2025 at her home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born November 12, 1956 in Cape Girardeau to Douglas and Daisy Marie Myer Koch. She married Michael Barrett June 8, 1991.
Susan was a 1975 graduate of Cape Central High School. February 2, 1987 she started her career as a Med Tech at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She had currently been working as a nurse’s assistant in same day surgery, but was on medical leave due to illness. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
Affectionately known as “Granny” by her grandchildren, family members, and friends, Susan will be remembered for her warmth and adventurous spirit. In earlier years, she enjoyed four-wheeling with Michael and later, attending car shows together. She was also proud to have obtained her conceal carry permit.
Loving survivors include her husband, Michael; son Nicholas (Danielle) Barrett of Jackson; two granddaughters, Bailey and Kennedy; a brother, Rob (Delores) Koch of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law Jane (the late Richard Scott) Koch of Cape Girardeau.
She also leaves behind her nieces, nephews, many friends, co-workers, and her precious canine companions.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, LaCole Kelton, her parents, and a brother, Richard “Scott” Koch.
A memorial visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Monday October 20, 2015 at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A memorial service will follow at 7 pm.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Louis Hope Lodge which provides cancer patients with lodging and support.
