Susan "Sue" Chambless Becht, age 68, of Jacksonville, was called home on the morning of December 25, 2022, at Community Hospice-Baptist South in Jacksonville, FL. Sue was born on May 27, 1954, in Atlanta, GA to Harold and Carolyn (Lundy) Chambless (later Stripling). Sue grew up in Decatur, GA and attended Leslie J. Steele Grammar School and Columbia High School before attending Mercer University in Macon, GA where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She met her husband, William Roger Becht, Jr. at Mercer and they were married shortly after graduation. After their wedding, they moved to Jacksonville, FL where they settled and raised their children. Sue worked for the Duval County Public School system for 25 years. She spent most of those years at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, beginning while her children were in attendance, and stayed for many years before moving to the Pre- K with Disabilities office. Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and "bonus mom" and was a source of love, support, and advice to many. She always loved cats and had a special place in her heart for foster cats, having 2 that came to live with her. She greatly enjoyed working in her yard, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She especially loved playing with her grandchildren. She could be found on many weekends cheering in the stands at t-ball, playing in the park, or building towers in the playroom.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn L. Stripling, her father, Harold R. Chambless, and her husband, William R. Becht, Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Marquis and her husband Michael of St. Augustine, FL; a son, Charles "Chas" Becht of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Robert "Bob" Chambless of Macon, GA; stepsisters Terri Strickland and her husband Tommy of Springfield, GA and Brenda Strickland of Townsend, GA; a half-brother Chris Chambless and his wife Kellie of Orange Park, FL; various nieces and nephews; and her beloved grandsons, Mason, Maddox, and Maverick Marquis.
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, the immediate family will be honoring her wishes by having a small, private gathering. You are encouraged to celebrate her life in the way you feel would be most appropriate and honoring to Sue. Donations may be made in her honor to First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Mayport Cats, St. Francis Animal Hospital, or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
Arrangements are being handled by St. John's Funeral Home.

I enjoyed working with Sue at the PK Disabilities office. Sue often spoke of her love for her children and grandchildren and I am so sorry for their loss. She will be missed by so many.

Sue was so smart. She had a gigantic heart, wonderful sense of humor, and worked hard. I am praying for her family who I know are heartbroken by her loss. Sue is up in Heaven enjoying sea salt caramels and all of her favorite things. She is a fierce angel for her grands!
