Susan Diane Becker, born on January 2, 1946, in Logansport, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Indianapolis. A dedicated educator and an inspiring leader, Susan leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by many. Her kindness and welcoming nature always put others at ease, drawing those around her into her warm embrace. Her great sense of humor sparked joy and laughter, creating a vibrant atmosphere in every room she entered.
Susan's career was marked by her relentless passion for science and education. She served as the Science Department Head at Cascade High School and made significant contributions to the Environmental Policies team at Holcomb Research Institute. As a Business Research Analyst for the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, she devoted herself to advancing the community she loved. Her journey also included impactful roles as a science teacher and administrator for Indianapolis Public Schools, where she nurtured young minds and inspired countless students. She served on the board of the Science Education Foundation of Indy and was instrumental in the creation of the first Navajo teacher group for the Navajo Nation, reflecting her commitment to education within diverse communities. Additionally, she established the Indy Business Review, further showcasing her dedication to education and communication.
Her academic pursuits culminated in a Master’s degree in biology, an achievement that reflected her commitment to personal growth and her desire to empower others through knowledge.
She is survived by her beloved cousins, Lyn K. La Prees, Kit L. Keener, and Nikki Schwenzer, who will carry on her spirit of kindness. Her profound love and memories will surely be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Susan is reunited with her late parents, William T. Becker and Thelma Elizabeth Becker, and her cherished companion of over 35 years, Robert S. Zetzl. Their bond and love continue eternally.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan's extraordinary life. A visitation will be held on July 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220. The celebration of life will take place at 10:30 AM on July 22, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5884 Crittenden Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
