Susan Maria Crimmins, age 63, passed away peacefully in her home on September 6th 2025, surrounded by her kids. Sue was born May 16, 1963 in Port Huron, MI, to Anita and Jerry Marcozzi. She grew up in a house right on Lake Huron with her siblings Kevin, Nancy, and Wendy. After high school at Port Huron Northern, she went on to college at the University of Michigan where she earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and English. After earning her degree, she got married to Ed Crimmins, and they had two daughters, Helen and Laura. When her daughters were in elementary school in Grand Rapids, MI, she went back to school at Grand Valley University to earn a second bachelor's degree in Education. Later, in 2021, she earned a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. Sue was a teacher for the last 30 years helping under-served kids at various inner-city and online schools with English, grammar, writing, life, and much more. She went above and beyond when it came to the needs of her students, including providing paper and pencils out of her own money and building a library in her classroom with novels she bought from library sales. She even had a snack drawer in her desk and made sure that any kid who forgot their lunch at least had a snack to eat with the other kids. Sue loved being outside, visiting museums, learning, and reading. Some of her favorite memories were from family vacations while her kids were growing up. She especially loved being out West and seeing the Black Hills in South Dakota, Laura Ingalls Wilder's home, and the wagon ruts remaining from the Oregon Trail. Sue was interested in the wonders of space, stargazing, following the James Webb Space Telescope, and the adventures of the Curiosity and Ingenuity rovers on Mars. She even went to Cleveland, OH, in 2024 to watch the total solar eclipse. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy by crocheting afghans, painting, and making Christmas crafts. Throughout all of this, Sue loved spending time with her daughters and being silly together. Sue lived with her cat, Luna, in
Grand Ledge, MI. She loved the small town feel of Grand Ledge and the friendships she had with her neighbors. She is survived by her daughters, Helen Crimmins (Adam Leyrer) and Laura Wilson (Matt), her mother, Anita Marcozzi, her sister, Nancy Yabroudi (Jamil), and her former husband, Ed Crimmins. Susan was preceded in death by her father Jerry Marcozzi, and siblings, Kevin and Wendy. The family will gather and celebrate her life between noon and 3 pm at Holihan-Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home in Grand Ledge (406 North Bridge St). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Sue's memory to Hospice of Lansing, 3411 Stoneleigh Drive, Lansing, Michigan 48910 (https://crm.bloomerang.co/HostedDonation?ApiKey=pub_90425878-dc54-11e7-afbe-024e165d44b3&WidgetId=3188736) or Flat River Outreach Ministries, 11535 Fulton Street E., Lowell, Michigan 49331 (https://www.fromlowell.org/donate/).
