Susan Carol Eastling

Susan Carol Eastling, 82, of Schererville, Indiana, passed away Sunday January 28, 2024, in the loving presence of her children. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Matthews, in 2002, and her long-time partner Ray Pavichevich in 2018. She is survived by her son Eric (Susan) Matthews, daughter Robyn Matthews, grandchildren Alycia, Megan, Addison, and Tyler, and by her brother Leslie Eastling as well as cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Susan was born in Duluth Minnesota on February 3, 1941, to Blaine and Enola Eastling. She later moved to Cedar Lake, Indiana, with her family. In high school, she was a ballet dancer, and loved going to sock hops at school. She continued friendships and meeting up with her high school classmates throughout her life. Susan was a dedicated stay at home mom and homemaker for many years. She was a brownie and girl scout troop leader and a Sunday school teacher. She was a wonderful cook and baker - her homemade bread was practically famous! Additionally, she sewed many of her own clothes and her children's clothes. Yep! Can you say "matching outfits"? She loved caring for animals and took a special interest in her kids activities and in her kids' friends she was definitely the "cool' mom and cared for many kids outside of her own. Later when she went back into the work force Susan sold flooring at CoverRite in Highland for many years and was a top salesperson and sales manager. Her knowledgeable, honest, and trustworthy nature made her the best kind of salesperson. Susan was a friend to many and loved her luncheons and card games with her girlfriends in recent years. Her weekly phone calls with her brother were always a highlight in her week! She was an avid reader, and was a talented quilter, knitter, and sewer, but her favorite hobby of late was spending time with her grandchildren who she showered with love. She will be greatly missed by so many!
Friends and family may gather in remembrance on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 3:00-8:00 PM at Burdan Funeral Home at 12901 Wicker Avenue in Cedar Lake, Indiana. A short service will be held at 7:30 PM. A private burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the chapel at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, her final resting place, where she will be buried close to her son, Brian.
