Susan F. Gregory

Lee, NH - Susan Freese Gregory, aged 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 4, 2025, in Lee, New Hampshire, surrounded by her loving family. Susan bravely battled cancer in her final months, maintaining her gentle spirit and gratitude to the very end.
Born and raised in Granby, Connecticut, Susan developed a lifelong passion for music, especially the piano, which she began playing at age six. Her love for music endured throughout her life, and she was a devoted church pianist for many years. Susan also enjoyed accompanying local musicians, and her musical talents brought joy to many.

Susan attended Oberlin College, initially pursuing studies at the Music Conservatory before graduating with a degree in mathematics. Early in her career, she worked in the San Francisco Shipyard, performing calculations to ensure the proper balance of US Navy warships. She later returned to the East Coast, working for Traveler's Insurance and starting a family.

Despite personal challenges, Susan demonstrated remarkable resilience, raising her sons largely on her own for a decade. She later became a COBOL programmer at Phoenix Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut, where she contributed to actuarial analyses and supported her youngest son's college education.

After retiring, Susan cultivated a deep interest in genealogy, becoming a local expert and assisting many in tracing their family histories. She volunteered her research skills for her church in Salt Lake City from 2012 to 2019, before returning to New Hampshire to be closer to her family and grandchildren.

Susan was an active member of the Newmarket community, playing piano for her church, participating in the Newmarket Library and Senior Center, and joining the 'Sunrise Strummers' ukulele group. She was known for her kindness, gentle nature, and unwavering gratitude, touching the lives of all who knew her.

Susan is survived by her sister, Kathryn Freese; her sons, Timothy, Peter, and Michael Gregory; her daughter-in-law, Losmin Gregory; and her grandchildren, Isaac and Adelle. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 18th from 6 - 8 p.m. at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home & Crematory, 77 Exeter Road (Route 108), Newmarket.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 10 a.m. at The Portsmouth, NH Latter-Day Saint Meetinghouse, Andrew Jarvis Drive, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Spring burial will take place in Homeland Cemetery, Bristol, NH.
