Susan Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patterson Cremation and Funeral Service - Jacksonville on Apr. 29, 2025.
Susan Elizabeth Ludwig Harris, age 67, passed away peacefully in her home on April 25, 2025.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Susan was the cherished daughter of the late James Frederick Ludwig Sr. and Elizabeth Rose George Ludwig. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Christine Elizabeth Ludwig and Roy George Ludwig. She is survived by her devoted older brother, Jimmy Ludwig Jr. (spouse Sylvia Ludwig).
Susan was the beloved wife of John Charles Harris, with whom she shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. They exchanged vows atop the mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado, a place that captured the adventurous spirit they both cherished.
She was the proud mother of Adam Robert Nicholas (spouse Andrea Jane Nicholas) and the loving stepmother of Jordan Christopher Harris. She was also the adoring grandmother of Kingsley Elizabeth Nicholas(16) and Sedona Jane Nicholas(2). Susan's greatest joy came from her family, and she dedicated her life to creating a home filled with love, laughter, and support.
Susan graduated from Englewood High School in Jacksonville, earned her undergraduate degree from North Florida University, and obtained her Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida. A passionate and accomplished professional, she built a distinguished career in Information Technology as a systems computer programmer, applications programmer, QA tester and project management.
Susan was an adventurous soul who loved fishing, skiing, traveling, and spending time with her family. She and Charlie shared many joyful trips together over the years. A proud alumna, Susan was also a devoted Florida Gators fan, cheering on her team with loyalty and spirit throughout her life.
Susan will be remembered for her kindness, steadfast reliability, and the natural warmth she brought to all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, and friend - a true light to her family and community.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on May 24, 2025, at the home she and Charlie built together on Black Hammock Island. Family and friends are warmly invited to RSVP by contacting Andrea Nicholas at (904) 599-8895 for address and additional details.
Susan's enduring legacy of love, grace, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A message to my dear sister....
I received that call and my heart was shattered as you told me the devastating news of your illness. I wished I were with you at that moment to hold you and comfort you and let you know I would be there for you and Charlie for anything you needed as you went through that awful illness. Little did we know God`s plan was to take you within a few weeks. As horrible as that was for the many of us who loved you, His plan was good and loving and kind. He did not want you to suffer long, and He was gracious enough to allow your family and friends to say their earthly goodbyes.
I was so blessed to be one of those people. I got to be with you, to hold your hand, and to witness for myself how at peace you were of what was to come.
I thank God every day for having brought you into my life. You were not just a stepsister to me, but I truly loved you and thought of you as my sister.
Though you are gone, I´m so thankful we made such fond and wonderful memories. From that awesome ski trip to Canada, the MANY Gator rallies we enjoyed together, and the MANY, MANY cheers we shared -- 1, 2, 3 GO Gators! -- to the blessing of having you as a bridesmaid in my wedding to Royce, I have loved our time together and thank you for that.
Oh my dear sister, I will miss you so and will forever keep you in my heart. And don´t worry, I will keep my promise to you to look out for Charlie and Adam and the family to be certain they are all doing OK.
I love you, Sis. Rest in Peace.

Charlie, I know you and the family miss Susan's beautiful smile and her wonderful way of always caring for those she loved. Even though your heart is heavy, just always remember the wonderful life she had from the time you all were married on the ski slop! What a great picture that is.
She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Our dear sweet Susan, we miss you already. You always had a smile for everyone and made us feel special just being around you. I'm lucky to have had you in our lives for as long as we did. Through work, jags games, New Year's Eve on the boat, the Keys! Susan LOVED her family and nature and life. We know Charlie, Adam, Kingsley, and ALL her loving family are broken hearted, but we will always love you and will always carry you in our hearts. Susan, I think you got life right.

"To pass through this brief life as nature demands. To give it up without complaint. Like an olive that ripens and falls. Praising its mother, thanking the tree it grew on."

Susan was my longest and truest friend, and sister-in-law. She showed her love and affection to everyone around her with her selfless actions, consistently thinking of others first. She was a kind and tender soul and she was a wonderful example for all of us. There is an emptiness in our family that no one will ever replace. I will miss her always.

I´m deeply saddened to hear this news. I first met Susan many years ago through her dear friend Mary Ann, and we volunteered together with the Jay Fund. Years later, I happened to marry Charlie´s brother´s stepson-though I didn´t make the connection until we all ended up at dinner one evening. What a small world! Susan´s love for the Gators always made me smile-especially the time she asked me to sit with her husband, a die-hard UGA fan, so she could fully enjoy the Florida-Georgia game. I thought the world of Susan. She was a remarkable person and will be deeply missed.

Susan was the best sister in law I could have ever wished for. She was as always there for us all in good times and bad times. I loved her with all my heart She left us way too soon. I couldn´t have asked for a better family from day one when I came into the Ludwig family. God bless her and may she rest in peace in the Lord´s arms in peace with her mother. Beloved sister will greatly missed. A truly great person.

I worked with Susan. She will always be remembered with her high energy and being a straight and honest shooter. She was always a "can do" person who would take on tasks as others dawdled. After work she was the person you wanted to be with at parties, she really lit-up rooms when she entered. I feel fortunate to have known Susan, and am so sorry she left us much too soon. Perhaps if we are lucky we will meet again.
