Mrs. Viola Gettis Cushion was born on May 10, 1940, to the late Julius and Dorothy Gettis. She entered eternal and peaceful rest on Sunday December 28th, 2025.

Viola grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and attended Duval Public School, she was also a member of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor H.B. Charles, Jr.

Viola enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was the matriarch of her family and she loved them deeply.

Viola married the love of her life, Jesse Cushion. They were happily married for 68 years. Viola was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Gettis Sr., and Dorothy Gettis Bethal, husband Jesse Cushion, daughter Linda Viola Cushion, along with eleven siblings.

Viola's life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Jesse Cushion III, extended children Crystal Skipper, and Rozeeta Skipper Presley; sister Bertha Smith (Gary); thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Mrs. Cushion may be viewed on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Carthage Chapel from 4:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1118 West Beaver Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204, and the interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
