Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Susan Cole Hollis, finished her mission on earth in the early morning hours of October 18, 2025. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home. She had just recently discovered that she was suffering from end-stage heart failure, which came as a complete shock to Susan and her family because she had always been such a spunky, vivacious and active person who lived such a full, fun and busy life.
Susan was born on May 15, 1952, to Edward Wayne and Dorothy Hadley Cole. She was the fourth of five daughters, and we are pretty sure she was Wayne's favorite -- the quintessential daddy's girl. She grew up in Kanesville, Utah, where she loved ice skating on the family pond and was surrounded by her cousins, aunts and uncles. She had many cherished memories of those fun times growing up as a country girl.
Her family spent two years living in France, where Susan attended kindergarten and developed a love of traveling. This experience would serve her well in her adult life.
She graduated in 1970 from Roy High School, where she was a cheerleader and built many lasting friendships. She attended Weber State College for two years and was also a proud member of the La Dianaeda Sorority. She earned her associate's degree in nursing in 1972 and worked for a year in labor and delivery at McKay-Dee Hospital.
In 1973, she and a group of friends interviewed for employment with United Airlines, and she was soon hired to be a flight attendant. She took her training in Chicago and was then based in Washington, D.C. This was the beginning of a 32-year career with the airlines, which gave her the opportunity to travel throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world. She transferred to Los Angeles and lived in Redondo Beach, Calif., for five years, and she was later based in San Francisco and Denver before retiring in 2006.
In 1980, at her 10-year high school reunion, she got reacquainted with one of her classmates, Randy Hollis. They began dating in October of that year, quickly fell in love, and were married on Feb. 14, 1981 -- Valentine's Day -- so Randy would never forget their anniversary.
Together they were blessed to raise four beautiful daughters -- Dawn, Jessica, Carli and Brandee. The family was sealed for time and all eternity at the Ogden LDS Temple on Feb. 11, 1995.
The gospel was always an important part of Susan's life and she served in many church callings, including Young Women's President, Primary President, Relief Society President and several others. She was a dedicated visiting teacher and loved serving others.
She was a lifelong sports fan and, in her younger years, she enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, distance running and playing tennis. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren at all of their sporting events and activities throughout her life. You could always hear her cheering for her kids and grandkids from the sidelines.
She was such a nurturing person, and her grandkids loved going to grandma's house for sleepovers. They knew they'd be treated to her famous banana pancakes or French toast, which have become legendary in our family. She was a fantastic cook and made the most delicious meals, and her slogan was "if you feel like something's missing, just add more butter."
Susan was an incredible wife who was such a great support to Randy, whose job often required him to work odd and long hours. She was always willing to push through in tough times and was such an incredibly strong person in so many ways.
She loved hosting family parties and making wonderful memories for her grandchildren. It brought her great joy to work in her garden and always maintained beautiful flowers in her yard. Susan also had a great sense of style -- you seldom saw her without her favorite lipstick -- and loved to dance, which Randy jokingly referred to as her "white girl groove."
Susan's love of travel took her all around the world, but her happy place was always Ko'olina, Hawaii.
Susan was at peace with leaving, but was sad to think of all that she will miss. We know she will always be close by watching over us.
Susan is survived by her husband, Randy, daughters Dawn (Stewart) Christenen, Ogden; Jessica (Jesse) Rowe, Huntsville; Carli (Preston) Cook, Saratoga Springs; and Brandee (Brady) Snow, Roy; and grandchildren Sydney and Cade Christensen; Kendyl, Sutton and Pierce Rowe; Rawlins, Baylor, Thatcher, Larkyn and McCoy Cook; and Theo, Vivien and Dawson Snow. She is also survived by her sisters Janeen Gooch, Marlene Lewellyn and LaWane Boltz, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson J Parker Christensen, her sister Barbara and her niece BethAnn Navidomskis, along with many beloved aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Municipal Park Ward, 5900 South 2200 West in Roy. The viewing will be held Friday evening from 5:30-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West in Roy, and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
