Susan Hurst died December 6, 2025, at home and surrounded by family. Susan fought a hard medical battle and finally her body couldn’t handle any more. Susan was born June 7, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her and her twin brother Stephen, were adopted by William Richard and Betty Hurst of Newton, Kansas. Susan grew up in Newton attending Newton high school, graduating in 1965. She attended college at Wichita State University, later becoming a CNA/CMA for many years. She married Vernon Schmidt and had three children, Elizabeth “Jane”, Tim, and Amy. Later, she and Vernon divorced. She spent her later career years as an over-the-road truck driver and enjoyed traveling across the country. She settled back in Newton over 20 years ago before moving to Marion, Kansas last year to live with her daughter Amy and her family. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Elizabeth “Jane” Baker. She is survived by her son in law Paul Baker of Newton Kansas, her son Tim (Michelle) Schmidt of Hays Kansas, Amy (Brian) Stiver of Marion Kansas, grandchildren Brian baker of Austin Texas, Matthew Baker of Wichita Kansas, Jessica (Noah) Wuest of Newton, Jacob Raprager of Marion Kansas, and Jayden Stiver of Marion Kansas. Susan also had two great grandsons, Parker and Bennett Wuest that made her face light up anytime they walked in the room. Cremation has taken place.
