When I opened up FB and saw the news it crushed me. Our relationship and friendship spanned 25+ years. Susan was our one and only vet when we lived in Kentucky. She opened up her heart helping me with an out of control feral colony, she mentored me and became one of my most treasured friends. My heart breaks for all of us who loved her, her passion for all animals will live on. I will be forever grateful for our friendship. The world was a better place with Dr.Susan in it!

I'm so heartbroken over Dr. Maier's passing :'( She gave me 3 more years with my black lab Luke that I would not have had thanks to her. She is already sorely missed :'(

My heart is breaking for you Todd, Aaron, Larry, and Jeff. Susan was an amazing spirit! I first became her roommate and friend in 1982 at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. We shared a house with two other horse women and we all had hay in our cars and in our hair too! She was a senior and I was a freshman and she showed me the ropes! We both drove Chevy Chevettes, hers brown and mine blue. We would drive to the interstate and talk to truckers on her CB! The next year we moved to Madison and continued our educations. We found a farm to rent so could have both hers and my horses there. We would trail ride together and take the horses camping and even traveled without the horses a few times! I remember she took me to Delafield to meet her dad Gerry and her brothers Larry and Jeff. We took a great trip to Texas to see the King Ranch! I also remember when I was driving semi I stopped in Shelbyville and you picked me up so I could meet Todd and Aaron and stayed the night catching up with you! So many good times with great memories! I will miss our chats on Messenger reminiscing about what fun we had! You have always been an amazing person and I´m lucky to have called you friend.
