Susan Maniez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jerns Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Jun. 1, 2023.
Susan Marie Maniez (nee Haug) was born in Bellingham, WA on December 7, 1941 to Conrad Haug and Sybil Mehus Haug. She was born the morning of the Pearl Harbor bombing. Her father was working in Alaska, which left her mother to worry about whether or not she had enough diapers to pack in case she was evacuated to Idaho with the newborn Susan and toddlers Lorene and Michael.
Susan grew up in Bellingham and attended Bellingham High School, where she graduated in 1959. On June 8, 1968, she married Leon Maniez, having been set up on a blind date with the young Frenchman. Shortly after their marriage, Leon's job moved them from Bellingham Washington to Jefferson, Maryland, where they would live for the next 35 years. Susan was an active volunteer at her daughters' school and in Girl Scouts; she later worked as a clerk for J C Penney's and at a local bakery. In 2003, Leon retired and they moved back to Bellingham. In her free time, Susan loved to read and to garden. She was never without a cat (or two).
Susan died in her beloved hometown on January 14, 2023, at age 81.She is survived by her daughters Michelle and Erica, grandsons Dylan Miner and Conrad Miner, son-in-law Jon Miner, and her brother Michael Haug. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Lorene Haug Brown, and her husband, Leon. She will be laid to rest at Bayview Cemetery; no funeral is planned. Please remember Susan by planting a marigold, enjoying a cup of coffee, or reading a good novel.
The family wishes to thank the staff of High Gate's memory care unit, and the staff of Whatcom Hospice, for their care of Susan during her final days.
