Susan Mote Obituary

Susan Molinda Mote, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at Columbus Regional HealthCare in Whiteville at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel R. McKeithan and Aline Caulder McKeithan; beloved husband, Douglas Mote; sisters: Charlotte Ann McKeithan and Geneva Hyatt.

Susan leaves behind her loving family, including her sons: Douglas Paul Mote of Greenville and Jacob Travis Mote of Bladenboro; daughter, Robin Mote Austin of Bladenboro; brothers: Daniel Ray McKeithan of Bladenboro and Michael McKeithan of Zebulon; sister, Elizabeth "Liz" Muller of South Carolina; grandchildren: Cody Matthew Austin, Claybourn Steele Mote, Bobby Lee Sessoms III, Douglas Ray Sessoms, Melynda Storms, Alina Smith, Josh Weaver and Freeman Turner; great-grandchildren: Summer Sessoms, Bobby Lee Sessoms IV and Amora Sessoms, and her treasured dog, Teddy.

Susan lived a life filled with meaningful connections and joyful pursuits. She found happiness in a variety of hobbies, including bingo, baking, and reading. She also enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and delighted in the thrill of yard sales, where she could uncover hidden treasures. Her fondness for games was evident in her enjoyment of playing burger shop and hidden object games on the computer. A true fan of entertainment, she spent many hours watching the Game Show Network, and her appreciation for nature shone through in her love of bird watching.

Susan was a cherished member of her community, known for her welcoming spirit and generous heart. She had an undeniable warmth that drew people to her; she never turned anyone away and was always ready to lend a helping hand or open her home to those in need. Susan will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to her family, and her joyful spirit. Her legacy of love will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 1-1:45pm on Tuesday, March 25th at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen-Gaskins with a funeral service at 2pm. Burial will follow in the Colly Chapel Church Cemetery in Harrells.
