Susan Elaine Prine Pierce
July 18, 1953 – October 14, 2025
Susan Elaine Prine Pierce, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, in Moss Beach, California, after a prolonged illness. She was 72 years old.
Born to Bonnie Lee and Vasco "Pete" Prine in Saint Augustine, Florida, on July 18, 1953, Susan was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Florida and graduated from Ribault High School. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of North Florida and a JD from the University of Florida.
Susan dedicated 35 years of her life to public service as an Assistant State Attorney in Seminole County, Florida. Her commitment to justice and her community left a lasting impact on those she served and worked alongside. She was known by her colleagues on both sides of the aisle, as well as the judges before whom she practiced, for her fair and balanced approach. Susan was a founding member of the Drug Court program, Mental Health Court, and Veterans Court program. She was a true humanitarian.
A longtime resident of Winter Springs, Florida, Susan was known for her vibrant spirit and wide-ranging interests. She was an avid animal lover, especially fond of Old English Sheepdogs and her cats, Miss Lily and Boots. Her talent and creativity found
expression in arts and crafts, and she worked in many different media throughout her life. In her later years, she devoted herself to crochet projects that benefited animal shelters, hospice patients, and individuals in need.
Photography was another of Susan's great passions. She was an active member of the Oviedo Photo Club, where she held several roles including serving a term as president, and participated in the Orlando Camera Club. Through her camera club, Susan worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to photograph children and their families visiting Disney World, helping to create photo albums that preserved memories of their special trips. Her photography also supported organizations and events such as Dream Flight, the St. Luke's Concert Series, and the Oviedo Historical Society.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Pierce, USN; her brother, Ken Prine; and her sister, Velma Hein. She is survived by her son, David Pierce; her daughter-in-law, Gabrielle McColgan; her brother, Leonard Pellicer; and a loving community of friends who meant the world to her.
Susan's warmth, generosity, and dedication to others will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Old English Sheepdog Rescue Network of the Southeast, Inc. A celebration of life will be planned and details shared at a later date.

Susan was the friendliest prosecutor I ever met. From the moment I encountered her (as a mentor in the Seminole Country Veterans Court), I saw an honest and fair person. Although we saw each other infrequently, we stayed in touch when she retired and went to live with family in California. I will miss the smile she always gave me.
