Susan Elizabeth Pugh Grant, beloved mother, grandmother, partner, sister and aunt passed away at home on June 15th, 2024 surrounded by her loving son Les Grant, Brothers David and Doug Pugh, Sister KC Walker and niece Megan Pugh. Susan was the epitome of strength and through her trials found a way to rise above them and utilize her struggles to embolden and strengthen her character with a strong will and clear mind.
Susan was born in the Avenues of Salt Lake City, UT on February 13, 1942. Her parents were Gerald R. Pugh and Ellen Ann Carson Pugh. She was the third of seven children and set an example of how to love your siblings. Susan had two sons, Leslie and Patrick Grant, and her granddaughter Lily, whom she loved dearly.
Susan received a bachelor's degree, followed by a master's degree from the University of Utah. Susan pursued a career helping other people as a clinical social worker at LDS hospital for many years, and later for Aetna where she met Sandy Dreis, who would be her partner for 26 years. Susan and Sandy lived in Sandy, UT and later settled in an adorable bungalow in the Sugarhouse Neighborhood of Salt Lake City.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Patrick, partner Sandy, two sisters Margaret Pugh and Lynda (Steve) Lakin. She is survived by her son Les, Granddaughter Lily, sisters Judy (Ted) Capener, Kathleen (KC) (Richard) Walker, two brothers David (Dianna) Pugh and Douglas Pugh. Susan is also survived by many nieces and nephews who are fortunate to remember her charisma, fortitude, kindness and love. Susan had a powerful intellect, unsurpassed sense of humor, wisdom and generosity. She set an example to so many people. She was loved by many. Her passing is a profound loss to the many people who loved her. Her memory will be sustained by those of us who loved her.
There will be a graveside service for Susan in the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Tuesday, June 25th at 11:00 AM before she is interred beside her son, Patrick.
