Celebrating the Life of Sara Lorraine Calapp Horrocks
Sara Lorraine Calapp Horrocks, 84, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, after a brave three-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She also lived courageously with Parkinson's disease for more than 20 years. Sara's life was one of dedication, faith, love, and music-a life that touched countless hearts.
Born on October 12, 1940, in Gridley, California, to Kenneth Jerome Calapp and Vera Hardesty Calapp, Sara was raised in Sacramento. She grew up on Baker Avenue, where her childhood home became a staple in her life, the lives of her children, and for all her nieces, nephews, and extended family. Many fond memories were made there-playing in the iconic bomb shelter, swimming in the pool, and enjoying the shade and fruit of the beautiful orange tree. She graduated from McClatchy High School in 1958, where she was an active student body officer and cheerleader. She later attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelors in Elementary Education.
Sara married Phillip Ohlsson, and together they had three children: Todd, Timothy, and Nicole, who shares the same birthday as Sara. Later in life, she met and married Richard Horrocks II. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1988 and shared a partnership of almost 40 years, grounded in faith and service.
Sara devoted her life to teaching children, earning a master's degree in educational counseling while teaching in the Granite School District. For 39 years, she guided, inspired, and encouraged generations of children, leaving a lasting mark on her students and community. Her love of music was a lifelong passion and in 1992, Sara achieved a dream she had held since youth: singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This accomplishment allowed her to travel the world, gain priceless friendships and even sing at the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics-an experience she cherished deeply. She fully dedicated her life to this calling until the age of 60.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faith, service and generosity were central to Sara's life. She served alongside her husband Richard in a 3½- year mission in the oldest Hispanic branch of the Church. They also dedicated three years to serving at the Utah State Prison. She faithfully served in nearly every church auxiliary, with her heart most at home as the Ward Chorister, sharing her love of music with all.
Sara was a true lady in every sense of the word. She never left her house without being fully dressed up, complete with her makeup and lipstick on. She had innumerable friends and friendships she held dear to her heart that spanned decades. She was beautiful, independent, firm, strong as nails, and proudly "Calapp stubborn." She was a collector of "all things" and loved making deliveries to everyone she knew with something she thought was special that they would like.
She will always be remembered for her grace, kindness, sacrifice, her love of music, her unshakable faith, her devotion to her husband and the love that she freely shared to everyone she knew. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard; children Todd, Timothy, Nicole (Mark), Rich (Lillian), Adam (Isabelle), Misty, Danielle (John), and Aaron (Rochelle),; cherished grandchildren: Jaden, Seth, Kameron, McCall, Vivian, Andrew, Kingston, Ian, James, John, Hanna, Gwenaelle (Josh), Samuel, Benjamin, Andre; great-grandchild, Bentley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Jerome Calapp and Vera Hardesty Calapp, and her brothers, Dywane and Keith Calapp.
A visitation will be held on Saturday September 6th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:15 p.m. at the LDS church located at 5017 West Grand View Peak Drive, Riverton, Utah, 84096. She will be laid to rest at Larkins Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, Utah 84092. A luncheon for family and close friends will be provided.
