SUSAN ARLENE (NÉE HYLAND) SIEVERT, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Bellevue, Washington, on May 15, 2025.
Born and raised in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Sue was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Hyland. She graduated from Green Township High School in 1962 and went on to study nursing at Mount Carmel Nursing School, earning her R.N. in the spring of 1965.
Later that year, she married the love of her life, Gary Sievert of Mount Vernon, Ohio. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising two children and living in numerous cities across the Midwest and Pacific Northwest including Columbus, Canton, and Centerville in Ohio; Noblesville, Indiana; St. Louis, Missouri; and Redmond, Washington. No matter where she called home, her friendly outgoing nature and wonderful sense of humor guaranteed we were all surrounded by laughter and friendship with the marvelous people she befriended along the way.
Sue enjoyed a meaningful and varied career in nursing, working in emergency care, orthopedics, and IV services. Following her retirement from nursing, she pursued her passion for design. She was known for her stunning silk floral arrangements and elaborate Christmas decorations that brought joy and beauty to many.
While work was meaningful for Sue, her family was always first. She eagerly joined and supported her family, attending all of the ball games and dance recitals. She was a regular room-mother when her children were in school. The home was filled with music, whether by her beautiful piano playing or LPs of the artists she and Gary adored.
Sue supported causes close to her heart, chairing committees and fundraising for city beautification projects, the arts and symphony, and wildlife preservation. For her friends, she was always ready when they wanted companionship, adventure, a piece of her delicious pie, or to just have a laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Gary Sievert. Sue is survived by her children, Amy Sievert Fox (Joseph A. Fox) and G. Michael Sievert (Suzanne Steiner Sievert); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Patricia and Dana; and her cherished dog, Tango.
Her social gifts, caring heart, and artistic touch will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, and if you feel moved to do so, a donation to
