Susan was born April 6, 1928 to the late Federico and Maria DeJesus Garcia. She was the youngest of four sisters and three brothers. Susan grew up in the Homestead neighborhood of Pittsburgh, later moved to the neighborhood of Oakland, and then finally to Monroeville. It was there that she and her husband, David, of 57 years built a home and raised their six children. She enjoyed telling stories of growing up in Homestead, took pride in taking care of her parents, and loved her job at John's Drug Store in Turtle Creek, where she worked as a cashier for many years.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, shopping, bingo, and most of all she loved to beat anyone who would challenge her to a good game of cards...and she almost always won. She also loved a delicious tamale, corn on the cob, and her morning biscotti. Susan could often be found watching Law & Order and she likely saw every episode at least 10 times.
Susan was a devout Catholic who never missed Mass until she could no longer attend and said her rosary every day. She was feisty and strong willed, but had a magnetic personality and was loved by her family and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband David, and her beloved son, Harold Schiffer. She is survived by her children, Linda Schiffer Martin, Elaine Schiffer Allen (John), Mark Socci (Ann), Sandra Socci Bittner (Mark), and David Socci. Also 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, St. Bernadette Church. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. Sue was one of the nicest women I had the pleasure of knowing. I saw her in church with her family whom she loved and would prepare dinner for them every Sunday. She was a fine lady and a respected customer of mine. God bless her.
