Susan (Tredeau) Stander, RN, 68, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Stander with whom she shared 23 years of marriage.
She was born in Framingham on May 30, 1957, and was the daughter of the late David H. and Isabel E. (Mancuso) Tredeau.
Susan lived most of her childhood in El Paso, TX, providing her the opportunity to explore the southwest and travel across America with her family. In 1969, they moved to Chelmsford where she attended school graduating from Chelmsford High School in 1975. She was a member of the Chelmsford High School Color Guard and a majorette marching every year in the Chelmsford parades. Susan graduated from Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing with her RN in 1980 and continued her education at UMass Lowell obtaining her BSN. For almost 40 years she worked as an RN at Lowell General Hospital starting out as a staff/charge nurse on MS3 and later as a Case Manager in the Utilization Review and Continuity of Care Departments. Susan was a recipient of the Lowell General Hospital's Nursing Excellence Award and her picture hung for years on the Nursing Wall of Fame. Susan loved nursing, especially caring for her patients and their families and mentoring new nurses.
Susan loved the time spent with her husband Bob and family, especially the annual vacation to Cape Cod and sunsets at Race Point. She also enjoyed travels with Bob to Aruba and Punta Cana and their many adventures in New Hampshire and Maine.
Susan will be remembered as a kind soul with a loving heart and a quick wit. She was very funny and loved nothing more than making people laugh.
In addition to her loving husband, Susan leaves her son, David Ng of Peterborough, NH; her siblings, Kim Richardson and her husband Paul of Tyngsborough, and Thomas Tredeau and his wife Mary of Chelmsford. She was a loving aunt to Paige Richardson and her partner Ryan Morgan and their daughter Gia Morgan of Nashua, NH, and Sean Green and Matthew Tredeau of Chelmsford. Additionally, Susan is survived by her sister-in-law Kathleen Donnelly and her husband Dan of Leesville, SC; her brothers-in-law James Stander and his wife Frances of Bedford, David Stander and his wife Pamela of Westford, and John Stander of Ayer. She is also survived by many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special uncle Samuel Mancuso and his wife Martha of Milford.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, James R. and Elizabeth Stander and niece Genevieve Stander.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 12 noon, at the Establishment, 75 Princeton St., NORTH CHELMSFORD. Her interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, CHELMSFORD will take place privately.
