Susan Bain Stoltz, born September 1, 1941 in Highland Park, Michigan, passed
away on July 22, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was the beloved
daughter of William Hampden Bain and Ruth Lee Voss.
Susan spent her early childhood in Detroit until age nine, when her family moved
to Redford Township, Michigan. At age 11, they relocated to Toledo, Ohio, where
they lived for two years before settling in Perrysburg, Ohio. Susan attended
Perrysburg High School, graduating with the class of 1959, where she served as
student body president.
In September 1959, Susan began her studies at Bowling Green State University
and graduated with a BS in Education in January 1963. She taught English at
Old Fort High School before marrying James Clark Stoltz on June 22, 1963. The
newlyweds moved to Ft. Lewis, Washington, in August 1963, where they lived for
two years while Jim served as a public information officer with the 4th Infantry
Division.
Returning to Toledo in 1965, Susan resumed her teaching career at Rossford
High School for two years. She gave birth to their first child, Christopher James
(CJ) Stoltz, on October 3, 1968, followed by their second child, Jonathan Bain
Stoltz, on August 26, 1971. The family moved to Centerville, Ohio, in 1973 for
nine months, then to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1974. Susan and James divorced in
January 1980.
In July 1982, Susan moved to Provo, Utah, where she worked as an office
manager for Dr. Jesse N. Hunsaker in American Fork. This practice merged with
Excel Eye Center in 1997. Susan dedicated 25 years to her work before retiring
on July 1, 2006.
Susan was a devoted mother and grandmother, known for her love of reading
and her annual visits to the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, UT. Susan
enjoyed gardening, line dancing, and had a passion for a good movie or novel.
Susan legacy of love, education, and dedication will be remembered by her
family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind
sister, Christine Harris; children, CJ and Jon (Veronica), and her cherished
grandchildren, Spencer (Sofi), Mason, Ryan, and Katie.
Her memory will forever live in our hearts.
