Susan Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Worthington Funeral Home - Rushville from Sep. 23 to Sep. 24, 2025.
Susan C. Young, 90, of Vermont, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was born on November 29, 1934, in Ray, Illinois, to Claire and Lois (Sipes) Mitchell. Susan married Robert Young, and together they made their home in Vermont, where she worked alongside her husband as a devoted farm wife. They raised two sons, Robert Young Jr. and Steve Young, and Susan took great joy in caring for her family. As her family grew, she was a loving grandmother who was always ready to help with her grandchildren.

Beyond her family life, Susan enjoyed bowling in the Vermont Bowling League and attending ham radio events with her husband. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan and rarely missed following her team. Susan had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs, Chuck and Nick, and her cat, Buddy, who provided her companionship in later years. Susan was a longtime member of Vermont Christian Church and also attended Houston Methodist Church. After Robert's passing, she became an active member of the Vermont Breakfast Club, where she formed many cherished friendships.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Young and Steve (Janet) Young; four granddaughters, Jennifer Elliott, Jessica Young, Cassandra (Lewis) Lancaster, and Amanda (Andrew) Trone; six great-grandchildren, Carmen Elliott, Liam Lancaster, Evangeline Lancaster, Jack Trone, Brady Trone, and Huntir Trone; a niece, Lora (Bryan) Miller; a nephew, Joe Mitchell; two great-nieces, Megan Coates and Mattie Looker; and five great-great-nieces and nephews, Tanna Coates, Cami Coates, Aaron Coates, Jackson Looker, and Sylvie Looker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her brother, Larry Mitchell; and her sister-in-law, Pat Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Dixie Croxton and Mrs. Karen Stauffer officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Phillips Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schuyler County Humane Society, Houston Methodist Church, or Cass-Schuyler Hospice.
