1943 - Sue Dayton - 2025

Sue Youngbood Dayton

"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23

Susie Belle Youngblood Dayton, age 81, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 at Murphy Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. A beloved mother, sister, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord, Sue’s life was a testament to unwavering faith, kindness, and devotion to her family, church, and community.

Born on June 2,1943, in Hiawassee, Sue was the daughter of the late Oscar and Reba (Beck) Youngblood. She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she served in numerous roles over the years. From her time as church secretary to singing in the choir, working in Bible School, and being a faithful member of the Ladies’ Sunday School class, Sue’s presence was a cornerstone of the church community. Always eager to serve, she faithfully prepared meals for church gatherings and was well known for baking delicious cakes, often auctioned to support church fundraisers.

Beyond her church service, Sue was a hard-working and caring member of her community. She was employed by Brumby Mills in Young Harris, contributed to early childhood education through the Ninth District Opportunity Head Start program at Towns County Schools, and later served the community through her work at the Towns County Health Department, from which she retired in 2005.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Joel Dayton; her parents, Oscar and Reba Youngblood; her brothers, Oscar Lewis (Junior), Voy Jay, Clarence James (Buster), and Jack Youngblood; and her sister, Betty Dawson.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever: her son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Patty Dayton; her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Faron King; her brother, Coy (Winnie) Youngblood of Blairsville; and her sister, Debbie (Mike) Smith of Kansas City, Kansas. Sue is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to know her.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 12:00 - 2:00 at Macedonia Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Reverend Danny Burch officiating and music provided by members of the Macedonia Church Choir. Sue will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jack, in the Macedonia Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jamie Beck, Morris Dayton, Myron Dayton, Justin Dawson, Alec Youngblood, Derrick Youngblood.

Sue’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and service, and her kindness and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She has now received her heavenly reward, and though we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing she is resting in the arms of the Lord.

Rest in peace, dear Sue. Your work on this earth is complete, and your legacy of faith and love will endure forever.
