Suzanne Edmondson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 7, 2025.
Suzanne Gordon Bernard Edmondson (Suzi), 84 years of Age died on October 23, 2025, at
Scottsdale, Arizona. Suzi was born on January 31,1941, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada to her
late parents, Goodwin McGaw Bernard (Barney) and Margaret Drysdale Lang Bernard (Peggy). Suzi
was the oldest of six children. Suzi began her early education in the Parliament Oak School in
Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, Canada followed by the York House private school in Vancouver,
British Columbia, Canada. Suzi also attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver,
British Columbia for two years, but subsequently decided college was not for her.
In 1960, Suzi joined United Airlines (United) as a stewardess (flight Attendant) and attended
United's stewardess training in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base. After
her initial training was successfully completed. United assigned Suzi to its flight base in Seattle
Washington, where she met Samuel A. Edmondson (Sam), her future husband, in 1961.
Following her "rookie" years. United assigned Suzi as a stewardess, on McDonnell Douglas' new
DC-8 jetliner. Suzi was working on the DC-8, as a stewardess, when the airplane was attempting to
land at New York's Laguardia Airport. Due to a malfunction in the DC-8's braking system the
airplane and Suzi nearly went off the end of the runway and into Jamaica Bay. But, the jetliner had
come to a hard, but safe and complete stop, very near the end of the runway.
In 1962, Suzi and Sam had been "totally in love " for months, when they decided to be married.
They were married on September 28,1963 in. St. Christopher's Anglican Church in West
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Three children resulted from this union. Suzi and Sam
initially settled in West Seattle, Washington to begin married life. At the request from Sam's
employer, Brown and Caldwell Consulting Engineers, the family relocated from West Seattle, to
Tucson, Arizona in 1981, and subsequently to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1990.
Sam and Suzi loved their life together and had the opportunity to travel to locations throughout
much of the United States, the Caribbean, and Western Europe.
Suzi and Sam are even more in-love today than in 1963, when they were married, and have often
said "we would love to go around one more time".
Suzi leaves to cherish her loving memory of her three children: Marie Bernard Edmondson, 57
(Dani); Shelagh Fitzgerald Edmondson, 56; and Dr. David Allen Edmondson, 53 (Carrie); her five
siblings: Peter, Philip, Joan, Michael, and David; and her six grandchildren: Emelia, Samuel, Benton,
Ruby, Connor, and Kayla; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Burial Office and Celebration of Life, to include Committal and a reception, will be held at Saint
Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church at 12990 E. Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, Arizona 85259 on
Friday, January 23, 2026 beginning at 2:00 PM. Canon Holly A. Hering will serve as the Celebrant.
