Suzanne "Sue" Slegowski, 90, formerly of Whitfield and a current resident of Phoebe Berks Village, passed away December 11, 2025 in the Healthcare Center.
She was the wife of Eugene "Gene" Slegowski (deceased) and shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with him as each other's best friend.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Heinecke.
Sue graduated from St. Peters High School (Reading Catholic) in 1954 where she was the May Queen and participated in many school activities and clubs.
After high school, she worked at Camp Hosiery in Reading and Manhattan. She and Gene returned to Reading after their early years of marriage in New York and New Jersey. They built a life in Whitfield and Sue devoted herself to raising her children. She returned to work as a seasonal office support for Bachman Pretzels until eventually taking a full-time position as an administrative assistant at Gilbert Associates in 1980 until her retirement in 1997.
Sue and Gene were founding and very active members of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. As the church grew, they were active volunteers helping with fundraisers and other church activities. After retiring, she volunteered in the church office. She had a quick smile and sparkling blue eyes which drew people to her as well as her caring and kind nature. She was an incredible hostess who loved entertaining and having fun. Sue and Gene enjoyed a large circle of close personal friends with whom they loved to play bridge and travel.
At her center was her love for her husband, children and faith. She is survived by her four children: Mary Beth Turner, (John), Marlton, NJ, David, Weehawken, NJ, Jean Ann Morrow, (Harry), Wyomissing, and Lisa Kermitz, (Eric) Macungie PA: seven grandchildren: Jonathan Turner, (Chelsea) Samuel Turner (Lauren); Jessica and Daniel Slegowski; David Morrow (Angela); and Matthew and Zachary Kermitz. One great-grandchild, Beau Turner. Her sister Teresa Bradbury: her niece Ann, wife of Mike Meschter and their son Ian; and one nephew, Brian, husband of Barb Bradbury also survive her.
