"The Lord is my friend, so I shall not be lonely even in a strange land; He is the Good Angel above my bed, so I shall see the dawn."
SW Scruggs, Sr. was born on January 18, 1933, in Gonzales, Texas, the second child born to Isaac and Naomi Scruggs. On May 19, 2025, in his home, SW Scruggs, Sr., was relieved of his earthly suffering.
From an early age, he embraced his faith and gave his life to Christ at Shiloh Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. He received his education at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, Texas, and went on to serve his country in the United States Army for two years before being honorably discharged.
On October 12, 1952, SW Scruggs united in matrimony with Ethelene Smith. Their union was blessed with five children, forming a strong and loving family foundation. A dedicated provider, he worked at LTV (now Raytheon) from 1952 until his retirement in 1993-a remarkable 41 years of service. Beyond his professional life, SW had a deep love for the land. He found joy in caring for horses, tending to his farm, and nurturing his garden. These passions reflected his connection to nature and his steady, nurturing spirit. He was an active Scout Leader for many years in his community.
SW was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Isaac and Naomi Scruggs; his siblings, Charlie and Naomi; and his sons, James and Gregory. His legacy continues through his children: SW Scruggs, Jr. (Lora), Nathan Scruggs (Debra), and Beverly Scruggs Johnson - all of Rowlett, Texas, and Hubert Howard (Kathy) of Dallas, Texas. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Lillie Pearl Hopkins of Garland, Texas and Joseph Scruggs (Etta) of Dallas, Texas; and he leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends-all of whom were touched by his wisdom, humor, and steadfast love.
