Sy Huelskamp Obituary

Sy was raised in Garden City where he attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School. He was lifetime farmer and rancher in the Pierceville and Charleston area. Sy also did odd jobs so he could continue to do his life work and passion of farming and ranching. He enjoyed spending his time watching John Wayne movies, Gunsmoke, the news, and sports.
Survivors include 3 daughters Stephanie (Keith) Reyes of Elm Grove, Louisiana, Vicky (Jeff) Vallejo of Olathe, Kansas, & Melanie (Alex) Stapleton of Minneola, Kansas; a son Kurt (Rose) Huelskamp of Garden City, Kansas; a brother C. Vincent (Katherine) Huelskamp of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; a sister-in-law Rhonda (Randy) Magnison of Holton, Kansas; a brother-in-law Stanley Jackson of Satanta, Kansas; 10 grandchildren Jared (Loretta) Huelskamp, Tessie (Ciro) Escarcega, Mary (Lamontae) Heady, Paul (Jacque) Simon, Denise (Michael) Cocking, Dominique Budd, Antionne Budd, Tyler Stapleton, Joshua (Jessie) Stapleton, & Makana Medeiros; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Sy is preceded in death by his wife Vivian of 63 years, who died on March 3, 2022. He is also preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Paul Huelskamp and Don Huelskamp; a son-in-law Larry Bates, Sr.; and a grandson Damien Huelskamp.
A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. James Dieker and Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrants. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Anthony Catholic Church of Fowler, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
