Sybil Dawn Fredell Hester, age 85, of Cherryville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at her daughter’s home. Sybil was born on June 10, 1939, in Gaston County, to the late Roy Lee Fredell and Mazel Matilda Fletcher Fredell. Sybil loved vacationing in Myrtle Beach, camping, and making her famous cathead biscuits. She was a member of Cherryville Church of God for 68 years. She loved the Lord, her church family, and teaching Sunday school for 50 years. Sybil was also active in the Cherryville Church of God Ladies Ministry.
In addition to her parents, Sybil was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edgar R. Hester; and brothers, Darrell, Ronnie, and Jerry Fredell.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, William “Billy” Michael Hester (wife, Dawn), of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Cindy Willis, of Cherryville; sister, Patricia Fredell, of Dallas; grandchildren, Matthew William Hester, of Myrtle Beach, Justin Ayers (wife, Dana), of Dallas, Tyler Short, of Conway; and numerous nieces. Sybil was also referred to as “Nanny” by many.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Cherryville Church of God, with Rev. Edward Mullaly, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. Cherryville Church of God will prepare a meal for family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, July 19, 2024, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.
