Sylvester M. "Syl" Neumann, 98, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Heart to Heart Hospice. He was born August 2, 1927 in St. Wendel to the late Clara (Glaser) and Charles Neumann.

Syl served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He worked for Bernardin Bottle Cap Company and later for Bassemiers. Syl was a member VFW 1114, Darmstadt Retirees, SWIRCA. Syl was also a faithful member of Resurrection Catholic Church. He was an accomplished wood worker. One of his greatest adventures along with his wife, Elvira, was traveling along the Alcan Highway while it was being built. Most importantly, Syl cherished the time that he spent with his family.

Syl is survived by his son, Steven Neumann; daughter, Julie (Rob) Hornbrook; grandchildren, Kari (Wayne) Opel, Ashley (Nolan) Thomas, Cody Hornbrook and Mallory (Evan) Snyder; great-grandchildren, Matthew (Hailey) Lynch, Luke Lynch, Gunnar Opel, Camden Opel, Noah Hornbrook, Nelson Thomas and Clark Thomas; sisters, Agnes Luigs, Antoinette Barr and Sally Guess; brothers, Lawrence Neumann and Harold (Rosie) Neumann; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Syl was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira (Blume) Neumann; sisters, Bertha Dame, Rosalia Simpkins and Madeline Rexing; and brothers, John David Neumann, Billy Neumann and Hugo Neumann.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville with a Memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2025 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5301 New Harmony Rd., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Father Jerry Pratt officiating.

Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul, 5301 New Harmony Rd., Evansville, 47720.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Syl.
