Sylvia Nelson Boggess of Galveston, 73 years old passed away on June 22, 2025 at 3:12am. She was born on May 25, 1952 to parents Capt. Daniel Floyd Nelson and Anna Belle Guidry Nelson.
She graduated from Ball High School in 1971 and University of North Texas in 1975; she had a long career of 39 years in teaching. Sylvia taught in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School. Her many different jobs were that of a Classroom Teacher, Reading Specialist and Dyslexic Specialist. Sylvia worked for the Texas Public School System for 34 years before she retired. At this time she moved to Cairo, Egypt and taught at the American International School for five years.
Sylvia enjoyed life fully, traveling throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Daniel F. (Sonny) Nelson and her sister Regina (Jeannie) Nelson. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Katherine and her husband Jordan Voor Esq., grandchildren; River Hockenberry, Joseph Voor, Otto Voor and Jaclyn Johnson, brother William (B.B.) Nelson and wife Dorothy, sisters; Desma (Desi) Guedry, Dot Snyder and husband Dr. Ned Snyder, III, and sister-in-law Norma Nelson and her nieces; Margo Crowder and husband Walt, Brandy Ousley and husband Dean, Shelly Mallia and Leslie Guedry, and her nephews; Tad Nelson Esq., and partner Amber Spurlock, Billy Nelson and wife Denise, Guy Nelson and wife Dr. Jeanne Nelson, Todd Nelson and wife Lisa, Michael Nelson and wife Amy, Dr. Ned Snyder IV and wife Dr. Renee and Andrew Snyder and wife Anna, and numerous great nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Any memorials may be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston, Texas.
