Sylvia Horswood, 89, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2025, surrounded by love. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born on April 5, 1936, Sylvia grew up in the Corning, New York area and later attended college in Montclair, New Jersey. She married the love of her life, Bill Horswood, in 1975, and together they shared five decades of devotion, laughter, and adventure. Bill and Sylvia loved to travel, camping throughout the East and Midwest. They treasured their visits with daughter Eileen and her family in Hawaii and Italy.
Sylvia was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved quilting, crocheting, bowling and enjoyed watching tennis on TV. She was always up for a good game of Rummy-0 and never cheated, just suddenly remembered a rule that somehow always worked in her favor.
She was a longtime member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church, where her faith and community were a source of strength and fellowship.
Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband, Bill; her sister, Evelyn; her children Maureen (David), Daren (Jessica), Ted (Linda), Amy (Edward), and Jill (Rob); 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen Lamb, and her brother, Willis Royce.
Special thanks to Caretiva Hospice for their wonderful care of Sylvia.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
Services will be held at Unity Free Will Baptist Church on Saturday September 6th at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Unity Free Will Baptist Church.
