In loving memory of Sylvia Ann (Ramirez) Lopez age 68 of Lordsburg, New Mexico passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Tucson, AZ. Sylvia was born in Lordsburg on August 31st, 1956, to Olivia (Altuna) and Manuel S. Ramirez. She was much loved by her brothers Manual, David, and Patrick Ramirez.
Sylvia was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother who always supported and cared for those she loved. She had the most beautiful green eyes, kindest spirt, and was an amazing friend to all who knew her. She was an active member of the community having worked as a secretary at the New Mexico Department of Health for over 30 years. She was a dedicated classmate to her graduating class of 1974, who still rock. As part of the unofficial Maverick spirit squad, she often traveled the great state of New Mexico with her family that included her Uncle Art and friends to support her kids and grandkids as they participated in various sports over the years. She once earned the title of "Most Dedicated Maverick Fan" when she was kindly asked to leave a game after a slight disagreement with an unfair referee. Sylvia was an avid reader, a slight shopaholic and easy-going traveler. One of her favorite road trips was touring the campus of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. She also loved to attend games for her AZ Wildcats, MN Vikings, and she made frequent trips to Disneyland with her kids. What Sylvia enjoyed most were gatherings with her large family.
She will be profoundly missed by her loving husband of forty years, Tommy Ray Lopez Sr. They first met in junior high school and reconnected later in life and blended their lives together making Lordsburg their home. Their children include: Sunshine Diaz of Lakewood CO, Adrian (Rachel) Diaz of Safford AZ, Tommy Ray Lopez Jr., Joseph Lopez, and Dena Lopez all of Tucson AZ and Denise Vanourney of Bellevue NE. Sylvia will be cherished by her fourteen grandchildren: Karissa, Jonathan, Adam, Alex, Adrian, AnaLysa, Ethan, Nathan, Mathew, Madison, JazzLynn, Aaron, Brandon, and Colin. In addition, she will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia will be welcomed into eternal rest by her parents Olivia and Manuel Ramirez and many beloved family members.
Services to honor Sylvia will take place Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lordsburg, NM with rosary starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by a eulogy, mass, and internment services to follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.
