Sylvia "Beany" Diane Reed was born in Abilene, Texas on October 4, 1955 to the late Harvey Reed and the late Sarah Garrett. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2024 in her home with her sisters by her side.

Funeral Services will be held at Mount Zion First Baptist Church, Friday June 14, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Demotis Sherman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park Garden of Memories under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home at 5750 Hwy 277 South. The family will receive friends at visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Mount Zion First Baptist Church located at 520 Stafford Street, Abilene, Texas.

Sylvia was a 1974 graduate of Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas. She was a member of Cougars Pride and was also a member of Vocational Office Education. Upon graduation Sylvia worked for City of Abilene Human Resources Division then transferred to the Abilene Fire Department for many years before moving to Greenville, South Carolina where she worked for the Greenville Housing Authority. Upon returning back to Texas, Sylvia lived in Austin, Texas where she worked for AAA Cooper Transportation, later working for Haliburton Oil Company in Midland, Texas. The Abilene Convention Center was her last career change before retiring after 15 years.

Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age with the Mount Zion First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member with the Mission Ladies, Bible Study, Church Secretary/Clerk and on the Finance Committee until her health declined. Sylvia was also a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church while in Austin under the pastoralship of the Pastor Richard E. Carter. Sylvia was a member of the Lady Aristocrats Social Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6873, participant in the Senior Citizens at the G.V. Daniels Recreation Center.

Sylvia was preceded in death by father Harvey Reed, her mother Sarah Garrett and stepfather Elray Garrett.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters, Jackie Reed and Racquel Garrett of Abilene, Regina Jones of San Antonio, two nieces Shamika Mack of Austin, QuaSheda Jones of San Antonio, two nephews Joseph Jones of Abilene, and Arren Garrett of White Settlement, three God- daughters, Torry Jae, Sanai (Juicy), and Monica Mitchell-Darko of Dallas, three great - nieces, Jayda, Dre'ShaNae, and Lyric, four great - nephews, Marques, Darius, Traevian, and JaLondon, six great - great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, and very special "brothers and sisters".
