Sylvia Watson Roy, 97, of Gillett, passed away on November 6, 2025 at the Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehab.
Born on December 02, 1927 in Wells Township, she was the daughter of William and Florence (Wright) Watson.
Sylvia graduated from Troy High School in 1944, then received a bachelor’s degree in education from Elmira College, then obtained her master’s degree from Bucknell University. In 1953, she began teaching in Gillett, SRU, Broadway and then retiring from the Elmira School District as a Language teacher at Southside High School. Sylvia was fluent in Latin, French, and Spanish.
She is survived by her son James “LaRue” (Ann) Roy, of Gillett, granddaughter Kimberly Roy, two great grandchildren Gladius Roy and Davison Mott, two great great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, brother-in-law Loren (Joan) Roy, of Gillett, sister-in-law Phyllis Antees of Tucson, AZ, and several nieces and nephews including Bruce (Jan) Roy, of Gillett.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband James Roy, her parents, and sister Esther Watson.
Keeping with Sylvia’s wishes, she will be buried along side her husband James in Coryland Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The Roy family has entrusted Sylvia’s services to the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 1093 W. Main St., Troy, PA, 16947.
