Sylvia Smith, lovingly known by many names - Sylvie, Syvee, Maw, Ma, Silbert, Old Bag, Maw Baby, Bag Lady, My Angel, and My Sweet Mama - passed peacefully the day after her 80th birthday, surrounded by the love of her family and community.
Born on October 20, 1945, in Evans, Louisiana, Sylvia lived a life filled with laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. Sweet in spirit and quick with wit, she touched countless hearts and became a beloved figure throughout her community. She found her greatest peace living along the Sabine River, where she loved to spend her days surrounded by the life she built with her family.
Sylvia was the proud founder of Heaven's Storehouse, a ministry she created to serve anyone in need. Where her heart was always open, and everything was free - clothing, supplies, and, most of all, kindness. She poured her heart into that mission and continued to serve faithfully until her final days.
Those who knew Sylvia knew her generosity and her heart for people. She treasured every card, letter, or little note she ever received, keeping each one as a reminder of the love that surrounded her. Her life was a shining example of faith, compassion, and selfless giving.
Sylvia was preceded in death by the love of her life, Randal Smith; her parents, Emmit and Gertie Jeane; her brothers, Claude Jeane and Syviel Jeane; three of her children, Brandon Smith, Randy Smith, and Stephanie Smith Garcia; and one great-grandson, Jake Smith.
She is survived by her children: Carla Walker and husband Curd Walker, Randa Smith and husband Dirk Smith, Kennis Smith and wife Sandy Smith, Wesley Smith, and Helen Holt; her siblings Shirley Wilson, Von Savell, and George Jeane and wife Charlene Jeane; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who adored her.
Just days before her passing, Sylvia celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by friends, family, and an entire community who loved her deeply. Her legacy of faith, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to invite everyone whose life has been touched by our "Maw Baby" to celebrate her life with us.
