In the early evening hours of Thursday December 26, 2024, Sylvia "Chucky" Urbina, 63, long time Texas resident, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024 at the age of 63 in San Antonio, TX. She was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and friends, and her sweet puppy, Bella
Sylvia was born on June 7, 1961 in Boise, Idaho to Thomas Urbina and Maria Josefina Cardenas-Urbina.
After attending San Benito High School, she left and decided to make her path to her own self-discovery and settled in San Antonio, TX, where she flourished with her work. She worked with her family who were migrant workers and helped out altruistically with everything she had.
Sylvia was a self-described feisty woman and proud lesbian activist in her community who contributed and gave back to her family at every opportunity she could. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her incredible humor, and for never backing down from an argument or fight. Her love for her family and Bella, her puppy was without equal. She was honest to a fault and gave so much love and her time to those around her.
She is preceded in death by her mother Maria Josefina Cardenas Urbina, her brothers Jose Angel and Jose Manuel, sisters Mary Jane and Rosa Linda Urbina. She is lovingly survived by her father, Thomas Urbina Sr, her sisters Anna Maria Urbina-Valdez and Teresa Urbina-Robles, and brothers Thomas Urbina Jr and Rolando Urbina. Her nieces Christina Escobedo, Neomi Urbina Esparza, Lisa Urbina, JoLynn Garcia, Gabrielle Urbina, and Thalia Robles. Her nephews Danny Urbina, Thomas Urbina III, David Manuel Urbina, Juan Jose Escobedo Jr, Alejandro Escobedo and Jose Manuel Urbina and extended great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends to count- everyone knew her as "Chuck" or "Tia Chuck", who she loved so much.
There will be no formal funeral service, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
