Sylvia Whittaker from Alvin, Texas passed away peacefully on March 18,2025, at the age of 86. Sylvia was born October 3,1938, in Moro, Arkansas to schoolteacher parents, Raymond and Edith Guthrie.
Sylvia experienced many "miles" of traveling adventures in her life, across almost every state in the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii. She once completed a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (and back!) She also experienced tropical island living in Puerto Rico for 5 years.
She was gifted and talented in many crafts, and her hands fashioned many "miles" of thread, yarn, fabric, and bobbin lace into intricate designs. She learned a rare form of bobbin lace from formal instruction that required a persistence which would escape many of us. She was also an accomplished painter.
She married Ronald Glenn Whittaker on August 30, 1958, and they enjoyed 66 years together of many miles of travels and adventures.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edith Guthrie; brothers Raymond Guthrie and Doug Guthrie; sister Inez Guthrie; daughters Mary Lynn Reiser and Sheryl Ann Mesloh.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ronald Glenn Whittaker Sr.; son Ronald Glenn Whittaker Jr; sisters Mary Whitson and Lorraine Simpson; along with eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Most importantly, Sylvia left a legacy of faith in Jesus, and we confidently await the day we will see her again in a place with no more pain and suffering. She encouraged many with the phrase "Trust Jesus" on the back of many cards and letters.
