Dr. T. James Sammon passed away on Saturday, 2/10/24 from cancer after a brief illness.
Jim was born on 1/11/42 in San Francisco, CA to Thomas and Bridget Sammon. He completed his bachelor's degree at San Francisco University. He graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency in pediatrics at Cardinal Glennon Hospital. Jim married Kathleen Weissler in 1968. From 1971-73, he served in the US Navy; he was stationed in Alameda, CA where he served as a medical officer. Jim and Kathy moved to Springfield MO in 1974, where they raised three daughters. Jim and his colleagues founded a pediatrics practice where he cared for children for over 30 years. He also spent 7 years providing pediatric evaluation services at Burrell Behavioral Health. His commitment to children's health included advocacy work with many organizations in Springfield. Through the years he served on many committees and boards, including the Mayor's Commission For Children (The Red Wagon). Summers were spent sailing on Lake Stockton, and winters were spent downhill skiing as often as he could get away. He rediscovered his love of playing trombone, and in 1990 he became a founding member of Caduceus, the doctors' jazz band that celebrates music of the big band era. His travels with Kathy took them all around the world. He is survived by his wife Kathy; his daughters Carolyn Sammon MD, Kate Wilkerson, Elizabeth Sammon; and his grandchildren Sylvia, Meredith, and Ryley. Visitation will be at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Friday 2/16/24 from 5-7pm. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday 2/17/24 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted at Doctors Without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.org), and at Claret Winter Shelter for the Homeless at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, MO.

Dr. Samson was my pediatrician until I aged out. So loved him! He will be missed for sure. So sorry for your loss.

I was just thinking about Dr Sammon today. I am so very saddened by the news of his passing. He was my pediatric Dr until I could no longer see him due to my age. He was so patient, and kind. James was truly a Diamond in the medical industry, and his passing will be felt for a long time. RIP my friend

Dear Kathy. I only just learned of Jim´s passing through a SLU communication. He was of course a good friend since the day we met in 1964. And you both also have been my friends for many years, including our years in the Bay area(and of course Scomas restaurant). My prayers and love are with you and your family. Sincerely, Bob Gulmi.
