Tammy Jean Mengel

Tammy Jean Mengel, age 57, of Slippery Rock, PA, passed away February 9, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born April 16, 1968, in Canton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jack and Betty "Joann" (Galvin) Ames. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Abel Mengel, whom she married September 17, 2005.

After her high school graduation, Tammy attended Kent State Salem where she received her Social Services degree. She went on to obtain her CDL and then became a logistics project manager for over 20 years with SSD and later Butler Refrigerated Meats.

Tammy was passionate about animals, especially the Boston Terriers she raised and horses she trained. She also enjoyed gardening and shooting pool.

In addition to her mother and her husband, she is survived by one son, Derik Herrington of Spring Hill, FL; her six siblings, Charlotte Johnson of New Philadelphia, OH, Jeff Ames of Dellroy, OH, Laura (Greg) Duren of Canton, OH, Jack (Bonnie) Ames of Navarre, OH, Bruce Ames of Carrollton, OH and Bonnie (Jeff) Wernet of East Canton, OH; two grandchildren, Alex Herrington and Sophia Warren; a brother-in-law Shawn Mengel; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; two nephews, Lewie and Dwaine; a brother-in-law, Clint Mengel; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Mengel.

Visitation will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16th at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
