Taniela Leka Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Serenity Funeral Home of Bluffdale on Jan. 10, 2026.
Taniela Haumono Leka, 81, passed away on Wednesday January 7th, 2026 at home in Magna. He was born May 12th, 1944 in Kolomotua, Tongatapu - Tonga Islands to Solomone Aholotu Leka and Emma Cocker Leka. He was married to Kapeliele Tokilupe Vave Leka, on Septemeber 30th 1969 in Tonga.

Haumono was a Hardworking, God fearing man who loved his family more then life itself. He served as a Staff Sargent in the Tonga Army and upon arriving in the United States he worked as a Cement Mason for over 30 years. He enjoyed building things, but he enjoyed his grandchildren more. As a man of God Haumono served as a lector and communion minister in multiple Catholic congregations. He loved to sing and would splurge in the occasional cocktail with family and friends.

Haumono is survived by his wife Tokilupe and 2 daughters Tapululululu (Moala Wolfgramm) and Ana Lepeti (Sione Hafoka). He has 7 living grandchildren; Chad, Tariana, Seletute, Sosefo Haumono, Touhuni, Sione and Patrick and 1 great grandson Haumono Leka. He is also survived by siblings, Halaholo, Lusia, Lopeti and Feleti. Haumono leaves behind many extended family members and close friends as he was as we say in the Tongan language "Mata Kakai" a people person.

Haumono is preceded in death by his parents, his older sister Melesiu and his granddaughter Lesieli along with many more of our blessed angels.

As a simple man, Haumono only wanted a Hufaki (Vigil) conducted in his home prior to his funeral services. We welcome friends and family to join us and visit with us during this time.

A viewing will be held Friday January 16th, 2026 at St Marten de Porres at 11am. (4914 S 2200 West, Taylorsville Utah) His final mass will follow at 1pm and then Haumono will make his journey to his cremation. No reception will be held but the family welcomes visitors at the home.

Thank you to Cascade Springs for supporting our father Haumono during his last months of life and a thank you to Serenity Funeral home in making his transition a peaceul experience. We'd also like to acknowledge his son in law Sione Hafoka for his tireless efforts in being Haumono's caregiver. Last but not least we want to thank all our extended family and friends for all the love and support. We are a small family but we love big just as our Patriarch taught us. God bless you all!
