Tanya Dutta, M.D., 45, loving wife of Neville Bamji, M.D., and mother of Tara and Jayden, passed away on May 31, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born on March 3, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois to Tamisra and Dipak Dutta.
Tanya, a successful cardiologist, graduated first in her class at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois and subsequently attended Harvard University, where she graduated magna cum laude in Biology (A.B., A.M.) and served as Associate Editorial Chair of the Harvard Crimson. She received her medical degree from Cornell University, and subsequently completed an internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital where she received the Joseph G. Hayes Senior Resident Teaching Award.
After completing a Cardiology Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, Tanya completed a Fellowship in Cardiac MR and Cardiac CT at St. Francis Hospital. Most recently, she was a non-invasive cardiologist and Director of Echocardiography with Westchester Medical Center. Tanya also co-authored numerous studies that have been published in various peer-reviewed journals.
Tanya always shared kindness and compassion, and she welcomed everyone into her heart. She was an avid reader who adored books with a special interest in classic fiction. Her memory and example will fill our hearts forever.
Tanya is survived by her husband Neville and her two children Tara and Jayden, mother Tamisra Dutta, father Dipak Dutta and sister Trina Dutta. She will also be lovingly remembered by her mother-in-law Mahrukh Bamji, M.D., father-in-law Dinshaw Bamji, M.D., sister-in-law Natasha Bamji, M.D., brother-in-law Jason Kutticherry and brother-in-law Raj Inamdar.
A virtual memorial celebration of Tanya's life will be held at a later date. In honor of Tanya, donations may be made to Westchester Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute to support the advancement of comprehensive cardiology services.
