Edward Paul (Ed) Dunphy of White Plains passed away on Wednesday, the 6th of August. He was 78 years old.

Ed was born on September 11, 1946, at Union Hospital in The Bronx to Ann and Tom Dunphy. He and his two brothers, Thomas and Kevin, were raised in the Parkchester section of The Bronx. Ed attended St. Raymond's Parochial School and then went on to Cardinal Hayes High School, where, despite lacking in height, he was a standout basketball player.

From there, Ed would go on to Providence College, where he was elected as student body president in 1968, the year of his graduation. While at Providence, he met his future wife, Joanne (nee Murray) who attended Salve Regina in Newport, RI.

After graduating, Ed served with honor as a lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star with the distinction of "V" for Valor for his bravery and heroism during an assault on Firebase Ripcord.

Upon return, Ed married Joanne on the 30th of January, 1971, at St. Agatha's Church in Milton, MA. Ed and Joanne returned to New York to start their lives shortly thereafter. They welcomed a daughter, Colleen, and a son, Brian, in 1973 and 1976, respectively.

During this time, Ed went to law school at the New York School of Law and, after graduating, received a clerkship at The Bronx County Courthouse. He would later go on to be a partner in private practice but found his true calling as the Corporation Counsel for various municipalities in Westchester County, most notably in his adopted hometown of White Plains.

Retirement did not suit Ed-at all-as he returned to practicing law on numerous occasions, often mentoring young attorneys entering municipal law. When he was not working, he loved traveling with his friends and family, and documenting all of his trips and social events through his passion for photography.

While photography was, indeed, a passion project, his true passion was his family, particularly his four adoring grandchildren-Catherine and Brendan King; and, Mackenzie and Thomas Dunphy. Along with his grandchildren, he is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Joanne, his sister-in-law, Noraleen Dunphy, of Leland, NC, his daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Nick King of White Plains, his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Susan Dunphy of Rockville Centre, NY. He is predeceased by both parents and both brothers.

Dear Joanne and Family.. My deepest condolences on your loss.there is no doubt that Ed was an amazing person in every respect....my fondest memory is whenever he came to visit at school or downtown White Plains his warmth and smile preceded him.. and then along came Mr. Dunphy! Above all you and your family were always first for him. We were so fortunate to have had such a kind generous and yes - fun person in our midst...
