Born in Calcutta, India, on February 28, 1936, Tapan pursued a career in Civil Engineering, earning his bachelor's degree in his hometown. He married Manju Basu in 1961. His passion for knowledge and desire to build a better life for his family led him to London, where he earned a master's degree in environmental engineering from Imperial College.
In 1965, Tapan immigrated to the United States from India to further his studies and earn a master's in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1965. His son Chandrasekhar Bob Basu was born a few years later in Boston, MA.
A man ahead of his time, Tapan was known not only for his intellect and professional achievements but also for his immense kindness, wisdom, love of learning, and dedication to the success of his children Meena and Bob. He enjoyed traveling the world with his family, staying connected to Bengali heritage and arts, and delighting in trying new foods and activities with his grandchildren.
Tapan is survived by his wife, Manju; his daughter, Meena, and her husband, Siddhartha Nag; his son, Chandrasekhar Bob Basu, and his wife, Sugene Kim; and his cherished grandchildren: Shayoni, Alena, Devan, and Dylan.
His legacy of love, curiosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and colleagues around the world.
