Brevard - Tawny Brown McCoy, 63, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 30, 2025.
Raised in the Silversteen community, she was the daughter of her first dad, the late Bill Brown, her second dad, the late L.E. Owen, and her mother Paulette Owen. Tawny was a proud graduate of Rosman High School and received her associate's degree from Brevard College. She worked for over thirty years as a paralegal and office manager for White & Dalton and was happy to spend her last few years as a Deputy Clerk for the Transylvania County Clerk of Court's Office.
Tawny lived a life of serving others and found her true joy and purpose through service. She especially loved children and served for 16 years on the Transylvania County Board of Education, the majority of which as the Chair of the Board, where she poured herself into building an excellent school system. Her proudest educational endeavor, however, was as a faithful Sunday School teacher for nearly all her adult life. She found no greater joy than in sharing her love for Jesus with countless children through the years. Tawny also served as a friend and mentor to numerous coworkers, friends, and family whom she impacted over the years.
Tawny spent her last few months fighting ALS. She and her family were overwhelmed by all the generous support from her community, including her work family, following her diagnosis in September of this year. They are especially grateful to her church, Rosman Baptist Tabernacle, for their immense generosity that exceeded anything we could have asked or imagined.
To know Tawny was to know that she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She saw every opportunity to serve as a chance to glorify her Savior, and humbly served as the pianist for her church her entire life, including for over 30 years at Rosman Baptist Tabernacle. She often recounted that she asked God to help her learn to play the piano as child so she could play to His honor and was continuously grateful to Him for giving her a gift that she could use to serve Him.
Tawny is survived by Keith McCoy, her husband of 37 years. She loved Keith dearly and proudly told everyone of his loving and compassionate care for her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Adam and his wife Abigail of Greenville, South Carolina. She would quickly tell you her son was her greatest accomplishment and was so proud to have recently added Abigail to her family. She was the best wife and mother that Keith and Adam could have ever hoped to have.
Additionally, Tawny is survived by her mother, Paulette Galloway Owen; father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Phyllis McCoy; brothers Kenny (Rhonda) Brown, Timothy (Gera) Owen, and Jonathan (Megan) Owen; sisters Mary Ann (Matthew) Owen and Rebecca (Michael) Hall; aunt Carolyn Brown Baker; and nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Rosman Baptist Tabernacle, Ed Owens Rd, Rosman, NC 28772. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, with a private burial to follow.
In honor of Tawny's love for her church, memorial gifts may be made to Rosman Baptist Tabernacle in appreciation of the church's generous support during her battle with ALS.
