Tedd Lynn Hurt, age 53, of Indianapolis, In., passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the I.U. Health University Hospital surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with Acute Leukemia.
Tedd was born on October 31, 1970, in Boonville, Mo., the son of Gary Edward Hurt and Donna Gayle (Loman) Kemper. On April 7, 2018, he was united in marriage to Stacy Lynn Jensen in Evansville, In., who survives at the home.
Tedd fondly remembered his childhood on a hobby farm in Versailles. His family relocated to Jefferson City, where he graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1989. He then pursued higher education at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and graduated from Kansas State University, earning a bachelor's degree in architecture. During his college years, Tedd had the chance to study abroad in Italy, and he cherished his experience backpacking across Europe.
After completing his education, Tedd embarked on a career in architecture, contributing to various projects across the Kansas City and Overland Park areas with firms such as TK Architects, HOK Sport, Construction Cast Stone, and WSKF Architects. During this time, he took pride in working on notable projects, including the Houston Astros Stadium, Cinemark Theaters, renovations on the Kansas City Royals Stadium dugouts, and assisting with the retractable roof at Wembley Stadium in London. In 2013, Tedd moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, joining Innovative Designs and later GA Johnson Construction, before relocating to Evansville, In. in 2017 to work with Three i Designs. Tedd was currently employed at VPS Architecture, where he found immense satisfaction and fulfilment in his work with the company. VPS Architecture, in turn, highly valued both him and his skills, talents, and dedication. One of his most passionate projects was his recent involvement at I.U. Health University Hospital. Tedd's career was a source of great pride, and his love for travel and diverse projects led him to obtain architectural licenses in seven states.
Tedd was a career-long member of the American Institute of Architects. He also donated his talents and passion for the arts to the Siouxland Heritage Museum Boad and the Young Friends of Art. While living in South Dakota, Tedd joined the Masonic Lodge and later served as Senior Warden for the Masonic Board Association.
Having a knack for architecture, Tedd was very creative and had a talent for drawing. He also enjoyed putting that to the test with building LEGO's. When Tedd wasn't working professionally, he was putting a lot of time and energy into renovating older homes, finding a good deal on antiques, and collecting childhood memorabilia. Being very detail oriented and meticulous, he was often considered "thrifty" and enjoyed the challenge of making something beautiful. He also considered himself musical, however he often made up his own lyrics to the songs.
The thrills of traveling brought Tedd immense joy that he always made time and space for. Along with studying abroad in Italy and backpacking through Europe, he traveled to Russia, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and other exotic places. When he went to the Dominican Republic, he brought back his beloved pup, Bette.
Tedd knew and cherished the value of family. He enjoyed times together playing board and tabletop games, traveling, and simply having the opportunity to spend time with them. Tedd was an individual who never knew a stranger and had a unique way of making everyone feel comfortable and at ease. He was very easy-going and compassionate and made sure that everyone was taken care of before himself. He will be missed by all who knew and loved his charismatic demeanor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stacy Hurt; two step-children, Paul Daniel Moon of Tennessee and James Joseph Hanley, IV of Connecticut; his mother, Donna Kemper (John) of Jefferson City; his father, Gary Hurt (Bette) of Carolina Shores, Nc.; two siblings, Todd Hurt of Redington Beach, Fl., and Terry Stover (Aaron) of
