Teddy Joe Cornett

Teddy "Joe" Cornett, age 72, of Belleville, MI, passed away at his home on Wednesday December 18, 2024. He was born on August 13, 1952 in Harlan, KY, the son of the late Luther and Janie (Dillman) Cornett. On November 23, 2013, he was joined in marriage to Sally Ann Gonzales in Belleville, MI, and she survives.
In 1990, Joe began his position as a maintenance mechanic at the University of Michigan, and after twenty-three years of dedicated work, he retired in 2013. He attended the Tecumseh Church of Christ as well as the Ypsilanti Missionary Baptist Church. Joe was a sports lover and he even coached a high school baseball team to a championship. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing, singing, playing his guitar, and hunting.
Along with his wife Sally, Joe is survived by his two daughters, Connie (Tom) Varner, of Jackson MI, and Amy (Dirk) Anderson, of Munith, MI; his nine grandchildren, Amber Platte, Amanda McDowell, Caitlin Anderson, Ethan Anderson, Jordan Henderson, Tayler, Luna, Violet and Christopher Varner; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Terry and Jerry Cornett, and his sister, Patty Rinesmith.
Funeral services for Teddy will take place at the Tecumseh Church of Christ at 4:00 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Visitation will be held before the service at the church from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Memorial contributions in honor of Joe may be made to the Dakota Gonzales Memorial Scholarship Fund.
