Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bartley Funeral Home - Plainview on Dec. 11, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce that Teddy Lanier Porter, 80, met his Lord and Savior on December 9, 2025, in
Lubbock, TX, and is now breathing the fresh air of Heaven. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bartley Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at 9th of Columbia Church of Christ in
Plainview, TX, with Pastor Evan Weiss officiating. Interment will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park in
Floydada, TX. Arrangements are under the supervision of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.
Teddy was born on April 5, 1945, in
Ralls, TX, to Tom Lewers Porter and Claudia Alma Mimms Porter. He married the love of his life and his true North, Mary Jane Porter on June 4, 1963, in McCoy, TX. They were married 40 years before her passing in 2003. In 2008, he married Sharon Porter; they were married until her passing in 2022.
After graduating from high school, Teddy began farming near Floydada until he was drafted into the Army. He spent two years stationed in Germany as a member of the 3rd Armored Division. Upon completing his service, he returned to farming until the late 1980's. He then became a paramedic, working for Floydada EMS for 3 years before moving to the DFW Metroplex, where he worked for over a decade. He returned to Plainview and worked at the gun counter at Gebo's for many years before retiring.
Teddy was a man whose hands were never idle, a true craftsman whose passion for creation left a lasting mark on the world around him. His spare time was spent in the vibrant, dedicated work of his pastimes: making knives, furniture woodworking, and metalworking. There was a profound satisfaction in his ability to take raw materials-steel, wood, or metal-and transform them into something beautiful and enduring. His pieces were not just objects; they were extensions of his patience, his skill, and his unique vision. Among his most distinctive creations were the spurs he crafted from metal, featuring a Mexican coin for the rowel.
Teddy is preceded in death by his parents, Tom Lewers Porter and Claudia Alma Mimms Porter; his first wife, Mary Jane Porter, his second wife, Sharon Porter; his daughter, Paula Diane Porter; his sister, Jean Parks and son-in-law, Sam Fortenberry.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Richard Porter with wife Heather of River Oaks, TX, Alycia Clater with husband Dusty of Gordonville, TX, and Becky Fortenberry of
Plainview, TX; his sister, Joy Thornton of Willis, TX; nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
