Tena Docter

Tena Crum Docter won her long battle with Alzheimer's and was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2025. She was born on January 3, 1935, to John and Petronella Crum. She, along with her family, emigrated to the United States in 1952 at the age of 17, where she met and married Bill Docter in 1956. Tena led a busy life; between raising their four children, working part-time, and helping Bill with his carpet cleaning business. She enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, and knitting, as well as spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tena was always a Helper; always volunteering at church and at school, bringing meals and homemade applesauce to shut-ins, and driving neighbors to church. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill, and great-grandson, Eathan, and brother-in-law Art. She is survived by her children: Nella (Tom) Scholten, Jackie (Ken) Hiskes, Carol (Randy) VanderMate, and Bill (Denise) Docter, 13 grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters Rina Koch, Hermina (Ben) Docter, Nellie (Bern) Scholma, and Drika (Jerry) Seabert, nieces and nephews. The family will host a visitation on Monday, September 29, from 6-8 pm at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE, Grand Rapids. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11 am, with visitation starting at 10 am, at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave, SE, Grand Rapids. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Holland. The family wishes to thank to the staff at Rest Haven Care Center, especially David's House, and Hospice of Holland, especially her nurse, Jacob, aide, Deanna, and volunteers, Catherine and Marilyn, for their loving care for Tena.
