Teresa Hanington Obituary

Danforth: Teresa (Morse) Hanington, age 63, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30th, 2025. Born on May 9, 1962, in Houlton, Maine, the daughter of Philip Eugene and Dianne (Lisheness) Morse.

Though her departure came too soon, her life was a remarkable testament to courage and perseverance.

From a young age, Teresa showed the strength of a fighter. She bravely battled and overcame cancer in her early 20s, defying every odd that stood against her. Doctors once told her that she had only a 5% chance of having children, yet she went on to build a beautiful family. Her family was her greatest pride, and her legacy will live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Her resilience didn't stop there-she survived many medical obstacles, facing each challenge with unshakable determination. These battles did not define her but instead revealed the depth of her strength she poured into every day she was given.

Beyond her story of survival, Teresa will be remembered for the life and meals she created and shared with others. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, and the greatest Nana. Teresa served in many professional and community roles. During her fight with cancer, she maintained three jobs: as a bookkeeper for Hanington Brothers Logging Company, sold Avon, and worked nights as a CNA at the residential center. She then went on to be the office manager for her father Philip's logging company. After having children and her father retiring, she became a stay-at-home mom, a volunteer EMS, school board member, HS class advisor, and was always present at any school activity or sporting event her children had. After her children graduated, she became Nana and helped Steve with the accounts payable at Hanington Bros part-time until 2020, when she had to step in full-time as office manager. She just recently became town selectman, and she continued both these roles until her passing.

Teresa made many memories and had a full life. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends to Florida, Hawaii, and her favorite destination, Aruba. She was seen jeeping and camping and loved to entertain crowds and play cards at her house and at the lake. Later in life, you would find her playing BINGO or at the casino in Bangor.

She expressed her love through the gifts she gave and how she served with her time. If she knew of any needs her children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews had, she would step in and fill the gap. Her lemon squares, homemade relish, and pickles will be missed.

She is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Stephen Hanington; daughter, Danielle Libbey and her children Abigail and Evan; son, Eric and his wife Krista Hanington and their four children, Abrianna, Sadie, Emily, and Maci; sisters, Elise Morse, Jackie Morse, and Nancy Hickman, her husband Ron; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins, and close friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Philip Jr., and son-in-law Luke Libbey.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11th at 11 a.m. at Community Church with Pastor Jason Johnstone officiating, 124 River Road, Lincoln, ME. To share condolences and memories, please visit www.bowersfuneral.com.
